We had the extreme pleasure of being featured on Food Network’s show: Burgers, Brew & ‘Que airing on Cooking Channel. How, you may ask? And the story goes…

It was late December, in the extreme rush of the holiday catering season.  I sit down at my desk after a busy lunch hour to work on my office duties, and the phone rings.  I entertain the call by listening to what I expect may be another daily sales pitch on a new marketing campaign, I can’t believe my ears, a producer on behalf of Food Network/Cooking Channel? I interject by asking how much the described show may cost me; there’s a laugh and I’m set straight. Turns out it was just not any call, it was a call with the greatest opportunity and the hugest blessing to have ever been bestowed on this business. An email is sent for my review, I investigate the legitimacy of the proposition; make a couple of calls to friends.  What do I find?  I find that my parent’s lifelong dream has just became our reality!!! I find myself sending pictures of our food and establishment to the producers. I find dates being planned for filming just weeks away. This is really happening!

After much anticipation and preparation, the film crew arrives.  Cameras, a boom mic, and monitors are carried in and set up.  There are interviews, demonstrations, and tastings.  It’s happening fast and we’re making memories that last.  The Hap’s family legacy is being shared on a national level and the excitement was through the roof!  What a huge honor that the recipes that Dad and Mom worked so many years to create together are being shared in homes around the country.

Tune in to Season 4 of Burgers, Brew & ‘Que episode: Smoked Smorgasbord for a Shark’s Appetite

We feature our Smoked Pulled Lamb Sandwich and Smoked Brownie Sundae on the show.

It’s safe to say that we’re all aware that February is the most popular month of the year to show our love to that special someone.  February has also been designated as the American “lamb lovers” month, who knew?  Breaking news for you!!! Hap’s lamb is too good to keep from featuring until next year, so we’re making a shout out for all of our lamb loving customers to scurry on over for a fix!   The BEST pulled lamb shoulder you will ever experience served with our homemade mint mustard sauce on the side.  We served our smoked pulled lamb by the pound, as a dinner, sandwich, burrito, or over a salad to list just a few.  It’s highly addictive, but legal!

Fried chicken, it’s all about the bird these days.  It seems that everywhere you look, a new restaurant is opening that specializes in nothing but chicken, fried chicken, of course!  Where’s the love for smoked chicken?  I can tell you that we’ve been showing chicken love for over 25 years!  We hand cut and rub our chicken and it rests overnight covered in our special blend of spices; smoke it up slow over special wood blend, and finish it off on the grill….oh the goodness that awaits you!  We serve our chicken whole, half, or by the quarter.  Want more?  We bone our chicken and serve it as a pulled chicken sandwich, burrito, or over an organic spring mix salad.  You see?  The choice is yours, fried or heavenly…you decide!

A deep dish fruit dessert, cobbler originated in early British American colonies as a variation of pie.  Pie crust, fruit filling, and an open fire is how it all started.  Recipes are passed on from generation to generation and we have a real winner that we bake up daily.  When it comes to our homemade cobbler, we have it down pat.  We serve four signature fruit cobblers: peach, apple, cherry, and blackberry.  Cherry cobbler is the star of the show, today, as we celebrate National Cherry Cobbler Day.   Come in and order a warm cherry cobbler with ice cream and enjoy this special day.

It’s May, National Barbecue Month, the weather is starting to heat and so is the grill.  It’s that time of year to fire up the smoker and do some backyard barbecuing with family and friends.  Perhaps, you have plans to entertain guests this month, but want to take the work out of the equation.  Leave the smokin’ to Hap’s; sit back and relax!  We sell our beef brisket and ham: whole, sliced, or chopped.  We pull our pork, chicken, and lamb.  Slabs of ribs come whole if you want to flash them on the grill for “the show” of it or we can cut and serve them ready to party!  Whatever your plan is this month, make sure it includes that smokey goodness that only ‘cue can do.

Did you know it’s National Small Business Week, April 30th—May 6th, 2017?

In 1991, my father, Dan Darroch turned his hobby into a small business known today as Hap’s Barbecue. Dan rolled out a shopping cart with a sign advertising his ‘cue and a self-fabricated smoker sending the magnificent smell of his barbecue drifting through the air of the neighborhood in hopes of enticing a few more car buyers onto the lot.

What he got in return was the beginning of a new small business, with so much attraction to the food, Dan set up shop into a concession trailer where customers lined up for hours to get a taste of his dream come true.

Today, we continue the legacy with all of his same passion and dedication to the business. Twenty-six years later, we are smoking more meats than ever before to accommodate the growing customer base that fell head over heels with our food and the encouraging story behind it. Go for it….follow your dreams and you will succeed.
